Oh, The Horror!

YES. It’s that time of year again. Better than Thanksgiving, better than Christmas. Halloween is here, you love it too. Lick the chops. Finally, a time to put those cosplay skills to use. My fellow creeps at OffWorld Designs asked me to come out of the t-shirt lab for a minute and spew about horror type stuff. That’s easy, by crackey. I’m all about horror movies, old and new. Who isn’t though? That jumpscare where we almost crapped ourselves, remember? We will at least have that it common. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours...

So damn, my 70’s flowerchild of a mom loved scary movies. Balls. I had seen the Exorcist, Carrie and all those Omen movies before I knew squat about latex and special effects. So now we’re at the local drive-In and watching a good ‘ol heartwarming double feature: It’s Alive and It’s Alive II. Cuz hell that’s where you took your kids back then, right? Suck it up, screampuff. I think I was 10. Holy Crap, right outta the gate that blood suckin baby busts outta the hospital and lil juice is on the loose, leaving a dead maternity ward behind. I couldn’t wrap my head around it at the time - how’d they get that baby to do that? Shit’s more frightening when intertwined with confusion..And now this thing is kinda crawling out from behind a rock towards the camera. I remember the screaming too. My screaming. It never occurred to me that they could make a nasty little bloody demonchild latex puppet like they could with Kermit the Frog. The 70’s were cruel to you like that. Things were just sprung on you. No behind-the-scenes featurettes. Learn it the hard way. Seems really stupid now, but was dang scurry at the time. Had more than one nightmare about that freakin’ puppet....Mmm, precious trauma.

And then the horror movie fear turns into love somewhere along the way. As with my own geeky traditions, been watching a horror movie an evening for all of October. Evil Dead. Seven. From Beyond. House of 1000 Corpses. 28 Days Later. And a little gem I watched last night called Exists. Been waiting for a decent Bigfoot movie like forever. Of course when someone says scary movies my head goes right to Texas Chainsaw, tho. It’s built into the DNA. Yeah, you know who you are... Brutal and unapologetic, just the way I likes it. No group hugzones, just blood-stained goodness. But I like the newer stuff too - The Purge. Sinister. Annabelle. Saw I through X. Paranormal Activity. Okay getting into a Halloween mood now. Time to head back to the lab and design some gory fun. What scary movies do you like? Which one gave you the most nightmares? More importantly, what OffWorld Designs horror t-shirt are you wearing? It’s that time of year, howl at OffWorld Designs about it. Here’s hoping all your Screams Come True...
